Will Anna Paquin Return To Play Rogue In ‘Gambit’?

roguegambit

Finally, after being delayed a few years, the Gambit movie is back on track. The Gambit solo film will star Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit and be directed by Gore Verbinski. Gambit is a mutant who has the ability to charge matter with volatile kinetic energy, causing the object in question to explosively release its charge on impact. The X-Men spinoff is rumored to be a heist flick involving Gambit recovering a mysterious case that was stolen from Nathaniel Essex — known as Mr. Sinister in the comics — by the Boudreaux clan. They plan to auction it during the yearly Thieves Ball where all the world’s criminal organizations gather for a single night. Essex offers Gambit $40 million to recover the case and return it to him.

This mysterious case is most likely the one seen during the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse. Many fans thought this scene would only provide a loose connection to Logan — as it contains Wolverine’s DNA — but it seems that 20th Century Fox had other plans for the information presented in the scene.

It is currently undetermined if any other actors will return to reprise their X-Men roles for the film, but there is one character in particular that fans are hoping to join the cast… Rogue!

In the comics, Gambit and Rogue became love interests as soon as he joined the X-Men. Despite their immediate attraction, their relationship developed slowly. This was due to Rogue’s inability to control her powers as well as Gambit’s secrecy and dishonesty concerning his previous relationships. Through their many break-ups and make-ups, Gambit and Rogue have one of the longest and most popular relationships in the X-Men comic series. Fans have been eagerly awaiting to see this relationship explored on the silver screen.

Rogue and Logan

We do not know if 20th Century Fox currently has plans to have Rogue in the Gambit film, nor do we know who they will get to play her. The character has previously been portrayed by Anna Paquin, who has played this role in four X-Men films – X-MenX2: X-Men UnitedX-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Back in 2015, Paquin was asked by a fan if she would appear in Gambit and she simply responded: “No.”

This, however, was back when Gambit was scheduled to be released on October 7, 2016. Lots of things have changed in the X-Men franchise since then and Paquin may now be available to reprise her role. If she did return, then it would provide more of a connection to the rest of the X-Men films.

One reason the studio may hesitate on casting Anna Paquin as Rogue in Gambit will depend on where this film fits into the X-Men franchise timeline. If the mysterious case is indeed the same case seen during the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse, then this would set Gambit in the rebooted continuity. This would mean that Gambit would have to be set in the early to mid-2000s for the character of Rogue to be old enough to be played by Paquin.

If they wish to set the film in the ’90s closer to X-Men: Dark Phoenix, then they would have to change when Rogue was born. The timeline changing after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past makes this possible. This is what allowed 20th Century Fox to change the age of Jubilee, a mutant who appeared as a teenager in the original X-Men set during the early 2000s, and made her a teenager in X-Men: Apocalypse which is set in 1983.

Tatum

Fans should be getting more information soon about which actors will join Channing Tatum in Gambit and what roles they will play. One thing’s for sure we know that Taylor Kitsch won’t be returning! Hopefully, we get some cameos from existing X-Men characters in the film. Fingers crossed that Anna Paquin is available and willing to join the cast if the studio asks her. It never hurts to add an Academy Award-winning actress to a film.

Gambit is scheduled for released on Valentine’s Day 2019

Is Darkseid Taking A Page Out Of Zod’s Book And Terraforming Earth, But With A More Sinister Twist?

Zod

Whoa! That new Justice League trailer is pretty cool. There are a lot of fun easter eggs hidden throughout the trailer, but one thing sticks out. During the battle in the beginning of the trailer we see Steppenwolf attack some soldiers with his axe and as the camera pans out the land begins to transform into a dark volcanic state. It looks as if he has begun to terraform the planet to become more like Apokolips which is very charred and volcanic in the comics. Terraforming is not an uncommon practice in the DCEU. In Man of Steel, General Zod began to terraform Earth into a new Krypton. So, did Darkseid send Steppenwolf to Earth to terraform it to become an Apokolips outpost? All signs are currently pointing to yes – with a more sinister twist!

In Man of Steel, the Kryptonians required the use of a ‘world engine’ to terraform Earth. It would make sense that this technology was not indigenous to Krypton. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Lex Luthor was told by the Kryptonian scout ship’s A.I. that “the Kryptonian archive contains knowledge from 100,000 different worlds.” Therefore, Apokolips could definitely have been one of those 100,000 different worlds and the New Gods would have access to the ‘world engine’ technology.

terra

In the Justice League trailer, we hear Batman say “I had a dream, it was the end of the world.” This dream is most likely a reference to the ‘Knightmare Sequence’ in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In the dream sequence, the Earth is a vast apocalyptic landscape – pun definitely intended! There are many ‘world engine’ like machines hovering above and fire shooting out of the Earth. On the ground in front of Batman, there is a giant omega symbol. Fans of the DC comics know that this symbol is analogous with Darkseid. The ‘Knightmare Sequence’ is very close to what we see happening in the new trailer. In which we see the land becoming charred and fire spouting into the sky.

Batman is also heard saying something else in the trailer. After Wonder Woman dramatically states “invasion” he says “I think it’s something more, something darker.” What could be darker than an invasion? Well, in an invasion the current inhabitants of the planet would be wiped out. General Zod showed Superman in Man of Steel that the humans would not survive the terraforming of Earth into a new Krypton. Darkseid may have Steppenwolf terraform Earth in a different way inJustice League.

infect

From the footage we saw in the trailer there is a human warrior that is transforming on the battlefield. His skin is becoming dark and cracked and his teeth are becoming sharper. It is highly likely that he is being turned into a Parademon by the terraforming process. His new fangs and skin are very similar to those of the Parademons we saw in the ‘Knightmare Sequence’ in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If Steppenwolf succeeds in Terraforming Earth for Darkseid it would give Apokolips around 7.6 billion new slave soldiers to use in other invasions. Also, it would easily allow him to take on the 7202 members of the Green Lantern Corps.

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 9.10.52 AM

In the comics, Parademons serve as the loyal army of Darkseid. They are genetically created on Apokolips in laboratories and operate as soldiers and slaves. When Apokolips decides to mount an interplanetary invasion, Darkseid sends in waves of his Parademons as the advanced infantry. Though most Parademons are created in a lab there are some Parademons are bred from human stock, selected from the lowly populous that reside in the poorest districts of Apokolips. In the New 52 comics, more specifically Earth 2: World’s End, Parademons are created from reformatted genetic material gleaned either from the living or dead remains of a native species during an interplanetary invasion. Considering that Geoff Johns is now a co-runner of the DC Extended Universe, and co-chairman of DC Films it would make sense that they begin using more material from the New 52 comics.

Justice League is due to hit theaters on November 17, 2017.

Rick and Morty “The Rickchurian Mortydate” Review

Screen Shot 2017-10-02 at 9.09.11 AM

Sadly, we didn’t get a conclusion to the ‘Evil Morty’ storyline like we thought. We did, however, get an interesting ending to a Good third season. “The Rickchurian Mortydate” had Rick and Morty going toe to toe with the President of the United States of America of whatever dimension they are currently residing in. Once again we get to see exactly how deadly Rick’s intelligence can be. Through some unknown means, Rick actually killed a secret service agent just by having physical contact with him. We also got a nice call-back to “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender” with the Nano-fiber defense mesh that laces Rick’s epidermis. One of the best parts of the episode was Rick’s fight with the President at the end. We thought Rick had some nice toys, but the U.S. government has some interesting weapons as well. My favorites are the twin who turn into mindless killing machines after hearing a special whistle. There was also teleporting technology similar to a stargate from the film, Stargate, and cool references to Minecraft, South Park, and the current political state of the United States. Another great part of the episode was the side story involving Beth thinking she was a clone. Honestly, I thought they were going to leave that situation alone until next season, but it was fun seeing how it played out in the season finale. Everything culminated in Rick and Morty basically hitting the reset button. The family is back together and everyone seems happy. Well everyone except Rick, but he’ll deal with it in his usual way. Considering what we learned in “Morty’s Mind Blowers” nothing that happens really matters as the show is a freeform anthology and lots of events happen in between the episodes airing. By next season Rick and Morty can be in a whole new dimension with a whole new family and we wouldn’t know it. I give “The Rickchurian Mortydate” a Good 4.5/5. I’m pretty sure that Beth is a clone and the real Beth will make an appearance next season. She did break the fourth wall and Rick has been the only person to do that so far. Hopefully, Mr. Poopybutthole was just pulling out leg and Season 4 starts in less than a year!

What Frank Castle’s Military Past Could Mean For Phase Two Of The Marvel Netflix Universe

Screen Shot 2017-09-30 at 6.42.20 PM

While fans do not know the exact date Marvel’s The Punisher will air on Netflix — my guess is October 13, 2017 — all are excited to watch Jon Bernthal return as the title character. The show will officially kick off ‘Phase Two’ of the Marvel Netflix Universe. We know the show will follow Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher as he exacts revenge — punishment— on those responsible for the death of his wife and children. We also know that the show will delve into Frank Castle’s past, him enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, his military service in the Middle East, and his time with the elite Marine Corps Force Recon unit under the command of Colonel Ray Schoonover. The flashbacks to Frank’s past may help launch the Netflix shows into the greater MCU and provide a more cohesive thread between the Netflix shows and the theatrical films.

If you have not watched Season 2 of Daredevil or The Defenders on Netflix then stop here: there will be some SPOILERS ahead for things that happened during those series.

 Micro

Now for those who have watched Daredevil and The Defenders, you know that Frank Castle was released by Wilson Fisk from prison to massacre all the other criminal empires in New York City. Fisk did this so that when he is eventually released, he will become the new ‘Kingpin of Crime’. Frank did not make any appearances in The Defenders and was last seen at the end of Season 2, Episode 12 of Daredevil in search of a mysterious ally from Frank’s past called “Micro” after retrieving a CD with his name on it.

David Lieberman a.k.a. Micro is the first link to the greater MCU. Aside from being mentioned in Daredevil, the character is also mentioned in Season 2, Episode 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Maybe members of S.H.I.E.L.D./HYDRA took part in framing Castle along with the CIA, FBI, and DHS. Hopefully, we get a couple mentions of Sharon Carter and Everett K. Ross – as they are both CIA operatives.

Screen Shot 2017-09-30 at 6.58.54 PM

Shifting back to Frank Castle’s past, we know that he took part in many combat operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Another major player in the MCU was present for a time during War in Afghanistan. By now we all know how Tony Stark escaped his captivity with the Ten Rings and was found by a search and rescue unit led by Colonel James Rhodes. There’s a good chance that Frank Castle’s unit was there for the Jericho missile presentation or a part of the search and rescue mission. With his military background, I wouldn’t doubt it.

Frank Castle

We still do not know if The Punisher is set before, after, or during the events of The Defenders. Frank’s absence during The Defenders allows for all settings to be possible. We do know that the show will include returning characters Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), Turk Barrett (Rob Morgan), and Detective Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson). Hopefully, they all make it out of this first season alive as it would be a shame to lose them as soon as ‘Phase Two’ starts. Lastly, it would be nice if there is mention of the other Netflix heroes or some new ones we have yet to see. Other Marvel shows taking place in ‘Phase Two’ include Daredevil Season 3, Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage Season 2 and Iron Fist Season 2.

The Punisher premieres globally █████ 2017, only on Netflix.

Ducks Fly Together: The Two ‘Mighty Ducks’ Reboots We Need!

Mighty Ducks

And just when you think they’re about to break apart— Ducks fly together!

And when the wind blows hard and the sky is black— Ducks fly together!

When the roosters are crowing and the cows are spinning circles in the pasture… Um, Okay — Ducks fly together!

And when everyone says it can’t be done — Ducks fly together!

There has not been a halftime speech in the history of halftime speeches greater than the one given in D2: The Mighty Ducks! As a child, I grew up with The Mighty Ducks. Those kids were my heroes, and I enjoyed watching them play hockey. The first film was a great comedy, the second film took things to a new level and was the best of the trilogy, and the third film, while not as good as the second, was a solid end for fans. The Mighty Ducks Trilogy spawned an actual NHL team (the Anaheim Ducks) and a fun animated series (Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series). The film and the animated series are a grand part of the ‘90s nostalgia that is being recaptured in film today. In the era of reboots, remakes, and delayed sequels it’s about time that we get both D4: The Mighty Ducks and Mighty Ducks: The Animated Movie.

‘The Mighty Ducks’

mighty-ducks-cast

The Mighty Ducks Trilogy was loved by kids worldwide. It was fun, entertaining, and dealt with real issues that many children, athletes, and students go through. We see the main characters start as young children learning to play hockey and then we watch them grow into young adults. A great thing about the film series is that the character growth is not limited to the children. Coach Bombay (Emilio Estevez) is shown to grow from an entitled self-absorbed lawyer into a loving coach and mentor, especially to Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson). Charlie becomes the kids’ leader and team captain. While he is not the most skilled of his teammates, he is very kind and levelheaded. We see him assume more of a leadership role in D3: The Mighty Ducks when Coach Bombay is absent. Seeing how these relationships have continued to change would make an interesting film.

Several of the actors from The Mighty Ducks Trilogy have gone on to lead moderately successful careers. It would be great if all returned for a sequel. Emilio Estevez was already a star when the first film came out and he has taken few roles since, focusing more on his directing. It’s essential that he return as Coach Bombay. Kenan Thompson was also a growing star when the film came out and has maintained his success. Currently, he is a regular on Saturday Night Live. It would be nice to see if his character, Russ Tyler, can still pull off that “knuckle puck!”

image

Joshua Jackson found fame in the late ‘90s and early 2000s as Pacey Witter on Dawson’s Creek and later as Peter Bishop on Fringe. Charlie Conway is and always will be the Mighty Duck’s captain! Eldon Henson has had bit parts since his tenure in The Mighty Ducks Trilogy but has recently found a home in Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. His portrayal of Foggy Nelson is quite different than Fulton Reed, so it would be great to see him don the “Bash Brother” persona once again.

D4: The Mighty Ducks would be quite easy to cast and cheap to film. With many of the actors not being major film stars, Disney could hire them for a good deal. Emilio Estevez could be hired to act in and direct the film to further save on costs. I would prefer for them not to recast any of the roles, but I would be open to the idea if some of the original cast chose not to return. This would give Disney the chance to add some extra star power to the film. Dwayne Johnson does make every film better — every film!

‘Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series’

d3

Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series was also loved by kids worldwide. This was mainly due to the level of love the films received. Originally airing on ABC with shows like Gargoyles — Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series was a ‘90s focal point — even though it only lasted one season. The animated series, however, was totally different from the film series with the only similarity being the name. Featuring a team of anthropomorphic humanoid ducks from Puckworld, Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series follows Wildwing, Nosedive, Tanya, Duke, Mallory and Grin as they battle Dragaunus and try to find a way back home. During the conflict, the ducks become trapped on Earth in Anaheim, California, no less and manage to become the NHL team, the Anaheim Ducks, with the arena as their home and HQ.

Mighty Ducks: The Animated Movie would be great to see on the silver screen. Given the fact that Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series is a Disney property and Disney has been doing well with its Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar franchises, I’m sure they would be successful in adapting this show as well. The show’s 26 episodes can easily be adapted into an entire series of films. Hopefully concluding a storyline fans never got to see. While it would be interesting to see this film made as live action, I think it would be better suited as a 3D computer-animated superhero-comedy similar to Big Hero 6. This would allow for greater collaboration with Pixar.

giphy

The characters in Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series are fun, loveable, and have pun-tastic names! Come on, who doesn’t love a name like Wildwing Flashblade, Canard Thunderbeak, or Duke L’Orange. Everything about this series screams animated movie! This would make the film easier to market to towards children while bringing in the parents who grew up watching the original show. Not to mention how many toys Disney could sell from the merchandising deals alone. I’m not sure if McDonald’s still gives out toys with their happy meals, but if I saw that they had Mighty Ducks toys, then I might buy a few happy meals for myself. To make this work, Disney would need big name actors to voice the team. A good mix of old and new voices would be smart. I’m thinking they should hire Chris Pratt as Nosedive Flashblade and bring back Brad Garrett as Check “Grin” Hardwing. For good measure, they should also include Alan Tudyk for additional voices because he is simply amazing.

Although The Walt Disney Company no longer owns the Anaheim Ducks, I’m sure they could work out a deal with the current owners that would benefit both the real and fictional teams. They could even add the Mighty Ducks to their growing list of characters at their Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. The possibilities are practically endless with this franchise. Disney needs to adapt these titles a.s.a.p.! It’s not often a company can get two totally different films from one of their older franchises. I realize doing both is a stretch, but a man can dream.
